Run With Megan – Week 1
Hey! I’m Megan Dice… I anchor Good Morning Virginia/Midday on ABC 13… and I’m a runner in my free time.
I’ve run 5 half marathons, all in California (San Diego, Big Sur, Disneyland, Napa to Sonoma, and Santa Barbara was with hills… and it about did me in). I’ve also done plenty of 5k and 10k races. With that being said, I know I need to train differently for this one… and luckily, I’m going to get a plan from a coach! I am excited to share my 10-week journey with you all here!
Here are a few things I’ve found helpful over the years:
Rest. Last weekend I ran on the treadmill, 40 minutes! But, as I know the terrain is the most important part. Not going to lie, the hills (Farm Basket hill, etc.) are scaring me. Big time. One thing I’m really putting priority to is finding something active to do on the days I’m giving my legs a rest from the roads. Maybe that’s getting on a bike or some other workout, but it’s important to listen to your body! Since I’ll be training with a coach, I’ll be able to share my experiences with you all!
Energy. This past Tuesday, I did another run on the treadmill. This time, I used the watermelon cellucor C-4. The watermelon was for energy, because you guys, I seriously have low energy after the midday show. What have you found helpful for an afternoon pick-me-up?
Shoes. The most important thing I’ve found in my years of running is to have great shoes… after a certain amount of miles ran, your shoes are shot, for lack of a better term. My shoes are Asics. I have knee problems some times when i run (especially when i go back to my old pair!). Finding a great pair of shoes is necessary and important in healthy running.
I encourage everyone to join in on the journey as you train, and share tips with me on my Facebook page, Twitter, or by email. I’d love to hear from you on how you are training for the Virginia 10 Miler, Virginia 4 Miler, or Virginia 4-Mile Walk.
I’m looking forward to these next 10 weeks with you!
