Run With Megan – Week 6

I am happy to report that we’ve made it past our halfway point and are heading into week 7!

I’ve kept myself on a pretty consistent schedule the last couple weeks. Here’s what I’ve done:

Sunday – Off
Monday – 3-4 miles
Tuesday – 5-6 miles
Wednesday – 3-4 miles
Thursday – 3-4 miles
Friday – Off
Saturday – 4-5 miles

Train yourself to run the entire time. For those of you who are new to running (or aren’t quite ready to jog consistently), split your time. Something I’ve learned that is really key to enjoying your running time is to not bite off more than you can chew. You have to do what’s going to work for you. If you have to walk and jog during your sessions, split your time evenly to start off. So, for every minute you jog, allow yourself to walk for 1 minute. Then, after you’ve accomplished that, push yourself a little harder and continue to add minutes to your jogging time and take them away from your walking time. You’ll be jogging the full set of miles in no time!

Hills! Hills! Hills! I’ve said this before, but you have to find the hills. Training for the 4 or 10 miler requires you to push yourself to find some hills… which isn’t too hard here in Lynchburg! Take my advice from above – if you have to walk part of them, do that. If you can run or jog them, then even better!

We’re so close to race day – I hope you’re registered and ready to go. I sure am ready to run with all of you!

Good luck this week!
