Olympian Molly Huddle to be Special Guest of Genworth Virginia 10 Miler

Olympian Molly Huddle to be Special Guest of Genworth Virginia 10 Miler

 LYNCHBURG, VA – The Virginia 10 Miler announced today that Olympian Molly Huddle will be this year’s Special Guest for the 44th Genworth Virginia 10 Miler. Molly Huddle, currently holds the American Record for 10K (30:13) achieved last year at the Rio Olympics where she finished 6th. She is also the former American Record holder for 5k (14:42), a mark which currently ranks her as the second fastest U.S. female. In her marathon debut this past November, Molly Huddle placed third overall at the 2016 New York City Marathon. In addition to numerous USA and NCAA championship titles, she won the 2015 US 10 Mile Championship Title, setting a course record of 51:44.

This past weekend she finished 8th at the World Championships (London) in the 10K and will compete in the 5k later this week. Molly Huddle will participate in a variety of events race weekend that include the Lynchburg Business Alliance Women’s Luncheon,  packet pickup appearances, a community presentation at Lynchburg College, race day announcing at the 10 mile finish line, and participating in the awards presentation. She will not be running the Virginia 10 Miler.

The 44th running of the infamous Genworth Virginia 10 Miler will take place Saturday September 23, 2017. More than 5,000 entrants from 20 states and 5 countries plan to participate in either the Virginia 10 Miler, Virginia 10 Miler Relay, Virginia 4 Miler, Virginia 4 Mile Walk and the Amazing Mile Children’s Run. This festival of races offers an opportunity for all abilities and ages to participate. It remains one of the most competitive races on the east coast and has the reputation as “the race” where “Southern Hospitality Meets the Road.” The event is organized by the Lynchburg Road Runners and has been selected by the RRCA as a National Championship for 2017.  Past “Special Guests” include Carrie Tollefson (2016), Katherine Switzer & Roger Robinson (2014 & 2015), Dick Beardsley (2013), and Joan Benoit Samuelson (2012).    # # #
