Olympian Alexi Pappas To Be Special Guest of Virginia 10 Miler

LYNCHBURG, VA – 2016 Olympian and award-winning actor and writer, Alexi Pappas will be this year’s Special Guest for the 46th Genworth Virginia 10 Miler. A Greek-American, Alexi represented Greece in the 2016 Olympics setting a national record of 31:36 for 10k. Alexi graduated magna cum laude from Dartmouth College and also ran for the University of Oregon as a 5th year, leading the team to two NCAA titles. She achieved All-American at the 3,000m and 5,000m as a collegiate athlete. Currently Alexi is training for the marathon distance and to ultimately compete in the 2020 Olympics.
Alexi co-created and starred in the feature film “Olympic Dreams” alongside Nick Kroll, premiering at SXSW 2019. In 2016 Alexi co-wrote, co-directed, and starred in the feature film TRACKTOWN with a cast including Rachel Dratch (“Saturday Night Live”) and Andy Buckley (“The Office”).
Alexi is currently writing a book of essays, “Bravey,” in partnership with Random House. Alexi’s writing has been published in the New York Times, Lenny Letter, and many more. Alexi has been profiled on the cover of the New York Times Sports Page, in Rolling Stone, on NPR’s All Things Considered, and was also featured on the cover of Runner’s World Magazine’s 50th anniversary issue alongside Kevin Hart, named as one of the two faces of the “new boom” in running.
Alexi Pappas will participate in a variety of events race weekend that include the Lynchburg Business Alliance Women’s Luncheon, packet pickup appearances, a community presentation at University of Lynchburg, and participating in the awards presentation. She is also part of this year’s “elite” field of athletes competing in the Genworth Virginia 10 Miler.
The 46th running of the infamous Genworth Virginia 10 Miler will take place Saturday September 28, 2019. The event is organized by the Lynchburg Road Runners and has been selected by the RRCA as a Regional Championship for 2019. Past “Special Guests” include Anne Audain (2018), Molly Huddle (2017), Carrie Tollefson (2016), Katherine Switzer & Roger Robinson (2014 & 2015), Dick Beardsley (2013), and Joan Benoit Samuelson (2012).
