VIRGINIA 4-MILE RUN AND 4-MILE WALK GO VIRTUAL, REGISTRATION TO OPEN JULY 15TH

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
JUNE 11, 2020

“Our decision to cancel the traditional Virginia 4-mile run and walk was not an easy one and came after many weeks of deliberation. We will continue to work closely with our stakeholders to organize the best Virginia 10 Miler we can during these unprecedented times.”

– Jeff Fedorko, Race Director

LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg Road Runners Club announced today that the Virginia 4-Mile Run and Virginia 4-Mile Walk will be virtual events this year. Bank of the James will continue to be the presenting sponsor of the Virginia 4-Mile Virtual Run. Centra will support the Virginia 4-Mile Virtual Walk as an honorary presenting sponsor.

A virtual event can be completed anywhere in the world. Results and participation can be reported by participants. A finisher medal and race t-shirt will still be offered to those that complete the virtual distance.

Numerous COVID factors led to this decision. As part of Randolph College’s new campus reopening policy concerning outside events and groups for the Fall semester, the 4-mile finish could not take place on the campus of Randolph College. Another factor is the ability to manage all events race day while following anticipated mandates related to COVID. Specifically, transporting 4-mile finishers back to E.C. Glass and managing the density of participants on the course.

The safety of our community, participants, volunteers, and spectators remains the primary focus of the Lynchburg Road Runners Club. Planning continues for the 10-mile event. The Club will continue to evaluate guidelines from federal, state, and local government health authorities. Registration for all Virginia 10 Mile events will continue to be delayed with an anticipated opening date of July 15th.

The 47th running of the world famous Genworth Virginia 10 Miler will take place Saturday September 26, 2020. The 4-mile events have been held at the time as the world-famous Virginia 10 Miler and experienced tremendous growth over the last 10 years. Last year, more than 2,000 runners and walkers successfully completed a 4-mile event. The mission of the Lynchburg Road Runners is to promote health and wellness in the Lynchburg community through the sport of running.
