Olympian Jared Ward to be Special Guest of Virginia 10 Miler

LYNCHBURG, VA – Olympian Jared Ward (Provo, Utah) will be the Special Guest for this year’s Moore & Giles Virginia 10 Miler. Representing the United States, Ward finished a 6th at the Rio Olympics in 2016 with an impressive performance of 2:11:30 despite hot, humid conditions. His National Champion titles include the USATF National Marathon Championships (2015), and the USATF 25K Championships (2015). Jared continues to be one of America’s top long-distance runners having placed competitively at the Boston (26th), New York (10th), Olympic Trials (27th), and London (17th) marathons in recent years. This past weekend, Jared placed 11th at the USATF 20K National Championships in preparation for his Berlin Marathon debut later this month.
Olympian Jared Ward will participate in a variety of events race weekend that include packet pickup appearances, a community presentation at University of Lynchburg, shake-out run, Amazing Mile Children’s Run, and participating in the race day awards presentation.

Amazing Mile Children’s Run, Amazement Square, 5:45 p.m.
Saturday, September 30th
Moore & Giles Virginia 10 Miler, E.C. Glass High School, 8:00 a.m.
The 49th running of the Moore & Giles Virginia 10 Miler will take place Saturday September 30, 2023. The event is organized by the Lynchburg Road Runners and has been selected by the RRCA as a State Championship for 2023. Past “Special Guests” include Sam Chalenga (2022), Alexi Pappas, (2019), Anne Audain (2018), Molly Huddle (2017), Carrie Tollefson (2016), Katherine Switzer & Roger Robinson (2014 & 2015), Dick Beardsley (2013), and Joan Benoit Samuelson (2012).
Since 1973, the mission of the Lynchburg Road Runners Club is to promote health and wellness in the Lynchburg community through the sport of running.
